I own the technical concept and architecture of a large microservice platform. I reworked its async processing layer with Java 21 virtual threads, taking it from 8,000 to 10,500 requests a minute on the same infrastructure, and cut latency on critical paths by up to 60%.
The backend for a smart home platform running in around 100 homes: thermostats, lighting and sensors reporting over MQTT, every device authenticated by its own mTLS certificate, bridged into Kafka as one event stream. My open-source IoT Telemetry project picks up the same ideas.
None of them planned. Each one started with “how hard can that be?”: splitting bills with roommates, city tours, Berlin news, tax receipts, shift reminders and a habit tracker. Designed, built and shipped on my own.
